Specialty gas hydrogen is hydrogen purified and handled so that impurity levels are measured in parts per million or even parts per billion. REAL GAZ supplies 5.0 grade (99.999 %) and 6.0 grade (99.9999 %) in specially prepared cylinders.

At parts-per-billion levels, the cylinder itself becomes part of the specification. We use cylinders with a controlled internal finish, dedicated to specialty hydrogen, and fit them with valves that have metal diaphragms to prevent air diffusing through elastomer seals. After filling, a sample is analysed for oxygen, water, nitrogen, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide and total hydrocarbons.

For an ultra-clean line, use electropolished stainless steel tubing, welded or metal-gasket-sealed joints and a purge cycle before connecting a new cylinder. Even a short exposure to ambient air can raise the moisture reading for hours, so use a dual-cylinder panel with a purge valve whenever possible.
