Hydrogen Cylinder β high-pressure cylinders designed for the lightest gas
A hydrogen cylinder has to cope with the smallest molecule in the periodic table, which diffuses through weak spots and can embrittle unsuitable steels. REAL GAZ therefore uses seamless cylinders of controlled tensile strength, inspected before every fill.
Standard working pressure is 200 bar, with some customers using 300 bar systems by agreement.
Standard working pressure is 200 bar, with some customers using 300 bar systems by agreement.
Cylinders conform to ISO 9809-1 or ISO 9809-2, carry the TPED pi-mark and are material-checked under ISO 11114-1 for hydrogen compatibility, for industrial and laboratory users.
Every cylinder has a stamped history: manufacturer, serial number, working and test pressure, water capacity and test date. REAL GAZ records these details in its own database and checks them each time a cylinder returns, which makes it simple to retire cylinders approaching the end of their test interval before they can be refilled.
π Where Hydrogen Cylinders Are Used
- βοΈ Laboratory supply β 10 and 20 litre cylinders feed gas chromatographs and analytical instruments;
- π¬ Welding and brazing support β hydrogenβargon mixtures are filled into dedicated cylinders for special alloys;
- π₯ Semiconductor and LED plants β cylinders serve as a backup to bulk supply for epitaxy and annealing;
- π Fuel-cell testing β test benches draw hydrogen from rack-mounted cylinders during development.
π‘ Why Choose REAL GAZ
- β Material selection β steel strength limits reduce the risk of hydrogen embrittlement;
- π§ͺ Valve compatibility β left-hand outlet thread prevents connection mix-ups;
- π― Inspection records β test dates, wall thickness checks and visual results are tracked;
- π Rack options β cylinder racks with chains and caps are available for hire;
- π Certificate of Analysis (CoA) β supplied with every order.
π¬ Quality Control & Safety
- ultrasonic or visual inspection of cylinder walls;
- hydrostatic test status verification;
- evacuation and purge cycles before filling;
- helium sniffer leak test after valve fitting.
Cylinders comply with ADR / UN transport rules and relevant EN/ISO standards.
π Cylinder Sizes
- 10 litre: about 1.8 mΒ³ at 200 bar;
- 20 litre: about 3.6 mΒ³ at 200 bar;
- 50 litre: about 9 mΒ³ at 200 bar;
- pack of 12 x 50 litre cylinders for large consumers.
Hydrogen cylinders should stand upright, be protected from direct sun and be kept away from cylinders holding oxygen or other oxidisers by at least the distance required locally, or by a fire-resistant partition. When connecting, check the thread, use the correct left-hand fitting and tighten with a proper spanner, then test every joint before opening the main valve fully.
