Compressed Hydrogen โ hydrogen stored at 200 bar for flexible use
Compressed hydrogen is hydrogen gas pressurised so that a practical quantity can be stored and moved. REAL GAZ compresses purified hydrogen into cylinders and bundles with oil-free compressors, keeping the product clean for sensitive applications.
The gas expands to about 200 times its cylinder volume when released at atmospheric pressure.
The gas expands to about 200 times its cylinder volume when released at atmospheric pressure.
Gas quality is controlled against ISO 14687 parameters, tested under ISO 17025 and shipped according to ADR as UN 1049, for industrial and laboratory use.
Purification is the first step in producing clean hydrogen for compression. Depending on the source, the gas passes through catalytic deoxo units to remove oxygen and through molecular sieve dryers to remove water. The purified gas is then compressed with a diaphragm or oil-free piston compressor, so the final product contains no compressor oil.
๐ญ Where Compressed Hydrogen Are Used
- โ๏ธ Fuel-cell development โ research teams test stacks using compressed hydrogen at controlled flow;
- ๐ฌ Electronics annealing โ furnaces use hydrogen to remove oxide and improve film properties;
- ๐ฅ Edible oil processing โ catalytic hydrogenation relies on clean hydrogen from compressed supply;
- ๐ Meteorology โ balloon launching stations fill sounding balloons from cylinder banks.
๐ก Why Choose REAL GAZ
- โ Oil-free compression โ diaphragm or oil-free compressors avoid hydrocarbon contamination;
- ๐งช Predictable pressure โ every filling is brought to a stated pressure at a reference temperature;
- ๐ฏ Bundled options โ cylinder packs reduce changeovers for continuous users;
- ๐ Leak-conscious supply โ connections and caps are checked at dispatch;
- ๐ Certificate of Analysis (CoA) โ supplied with every order.
๐ฌ Quality Control & Safety
- purification by catalytic and adsorption steps;
- dew point and oxygen analysis;
- pressure-temperature compensated filling;
- valve and cap inspection.
Cylinders comply with ADR / UN transport rules and relevant EN/ISO standards.
โฝ Handling Hydrogen at 200 bar
- use only hydrogen-rated regulators and pipework;
- purge lines with nitrogen before and after use;
- install hydrogen detectors at ceiling level, since the gas rises;
- keep ignition sources and static discharge risks away.
A full cylinder at 200 bar is a considerable store of energy, so equipment must be rated accordingly. Use two-stage regulators, fit pressure relief on low-pressure lines and never use adaptors that were not designed for hydrogen. Teams new to hydrogen can ask us for a short induction covering storage distances, labelling, detector placement and what to do in an emergency. We also explain how to read cylinder labels, how to calculate remaining gas from pressure and temperature, and when to schedule the next delivery so that you never run a process on its last cylinder.
