Precision CO₂ Gas — CO₂ calibration standards with stated uncertainty
Precision CO₂ Gas from REAL GAZ means carbon dioxide mixtures made for measurement: concentrations from a few hundred ppm to percent levels in nitrogen, synthetic air or helium, each with a stated tolerance and uncertainty.
They are used wherever a CO₂ reading must be defended, from indoor air quality to emission reporting.
They are used wherever a CO₂ reading must be defended, from indoor air quality to emission reporting.
Preparation follows ISO 6142-1, verification follows ISO 6143, and laboratory competence is judged against ISO 17025 principles; suitable for calibration and reference use.
CO₂ is stable in clean cylinders, which is why shelf lives are usually long for standards in nitrogen, but accuracy depends on how the standard is used. Moisture adsorbed in lines and low ambient temperatures can alter the delivered concentration, especially at higher percentages. We include guidance on minimum cylinder pressure, flow rate and conditioning time to keep the delivered value close to the certified one.
Calibration with carbon dioxide demands attention to the sample line. CO₂ is soluble in water and can adsorb on some plastics, so use stainless or PTFE tubing, keep lines short and condition them with the calibration gas before taking readings. For non-dispersive infrared analysers, zero the instrument with nitrogen or synthetic air, then span with the standard at a concentration near your working range. Remember that room air contains roughly 420 ppm of CO₂, so any low-level calibration must be performed with the line fully purged, and breathing near the sampling point should be avoided because exhaled air holds around four percent of the gas.
🏭 Where Precision CO₂ Is Used
- ⚙️ Indoor air quality — ventilation controls and building sensors are adjusted to certified ppm-level CO₂ references;
- 🔬 Emission reporting — stack analysers for greenhouse gas reporting need traceable span gases;
- 🏥 Fermentation and brewing — off-gas analysers track CO₂ evolution to monitor the progress of a batch;
- 🚀 Medical device testing — capnography and respiratory monitors are verified against known CO₂ values in a test setting.
💡 Why Choose REAL GAZ
- ✅ Gravimetric basis — values come from weighing, with uncertainty and tolerance on the certificate;
- 🧪 Matrix flexibility — nitrogen, air or helium chosen to suit the analyser;
- 🎯 Range coverage — from several hundred ppm to percent levels in the same service;
- 🔒 Usage guidance — minimum pressure and flow advice to preserve the certified value;
- 📄 Certificate of Analysis (CoA) — supplied with every order.
🔬 Quality Control & Safety
- purification of component and balance gases;
- precision gravimetric blending;
- verification against reference standards by NDIR;
- leak testing and pressure integrity checks.
Note the certified expiry date and avoid using a standard below the stated minimum pressure, since concentration can drift near empty.
Cylinders comply with ADR / UN transport rules and relevant EN/ISO standards.
