FUEL FLASHBACK โ€” understanding and stopping dangerous flame return
Fuel Flashback happens when a flame travels backwards from the torch through the hose towards the cylinder, driven by the burn speed of the fuel gas mixing with oxygen. REAL GAZ explains the risk and supplies the protective devices that stop it.
A flashback can overheat hoses, rupture regulators and, with acetylene, trigger a decomposition reaction inside the cylinder. Prevention is far simpler than recovery, and starts with correctly fitted arrestors and non-return valves.
Our protective equipment follows ISO 5175-1, EN ISO 14114 and ISO 9090, aimed at welding and cutting operations.

๐Ÿญ Where Flashback Protection Are Used
  • โš™๏ธ Gas welding shops โ€” protect torch and regulator lines where oxygen and acetylene or propane are used together every day;
  • ๐Ÿ”ฌ Cutting and heating โ€” guard long hose runs on shipyards and demolition sites where torches are frequently re-lit;
  • ๐Ÿฅ Plumbing and HVAC โ€” protect brazing sets used in confined plant rooms where an incident would be harder to contain;
  • ๐Ÿš€ Training facilities โ€” show apprentices how check valves and arrestors respond when a flame returns.

๐Ÿ’ก Why Choose REAL GAZ
  • โœ… Dual protection โ€” a flame arrestor and a non-return valve act together on each line;
  • ๐Ÿงช Temperature cut-off โ€” thermally activated valves shut off gas when a device overheats;
  • ๐ŸŽฏ Pressure-sensitive shut-off โ€” devices close when a pressure wave from a flashback is detected;
  • ๐Ÿ”’ Practical advice โ€” our team helps you decide which line positions need protection;
  • ๐Ÿ“„ Certificate of Analysis (CoA) โ€” supplied with every order.

๐Ÿ”ฌ Quality Control & Safety
  • flame arrestor element inspection;
  • reverse-flow and gas-tightness testing;
  • pressure-shock testing on sample devices;
  • thread and marking checks before dispatch.
Check arrestors regularly and replace any unit that has seen a flashback. Fuel gas cylinders are carried under ADR / UN rules and relevant EN/ISO standards.
How a flashback develops: when the gas flow at the torch tip drops below the flame speed, the flame can move into the mixing chamber and then into the hose. Common triggers include a blocked tip, incorrect pressure settings, a hose that has been pinched or damaged, and failure to purge hoses before lighting. A true flashback usually makes a hissing or squealing sound, so close the torch valves at once, oxygen first, then fuel, and shut the cylinder valves. Allow the equipment to cool, inspect all hoses and replace damaged arrestors. Regular training, correct lighting order and sound equipment greatly lower the likelihood of any incident.

โš™๏ธ Trusted Gas Solutions
Whenever Fuel Flashback is a concern in your workshop or on site, REAL GAZ can review your set-up and recommend arrestors for the regulator and torch. We support welders, contractors and plant engineers across Azerbaijan, Turkey, Georgia, Uzbekistan and the USA.
