Liquid nitrogen is always boiling, so a vessel must never be sealed tight. Non-pressurised dewars have loosely fitting caps, and pressurised ones carry relief valves and burst discs. Typical evaporation loss ranges from 0.5 to 2 litres per day depending on size, so ordering to match real consumption reduces waste. Cryogenic gloves, a face shield and an oxygen monitor in the room are basic precautions.
Transport rules apply to liquid nitrogen too. Dewars must be carried upright, secured and never in a closed passenger compartment. For fixed tanks we agree a delivery slot, check that hoses and couplings are compatible, and record the fill level before and after the transfer. These records give you a clear picture of daily consumption.
