Research use has particular rules. Only small, well-ventilated areas away from solvents, oils and organic residues should be used, and a second person should be present during transfers. Liquid oxygen may condense on very cold surfaces in air, for example on unprotected liquid nitrogen lines, so insulation and drip trays are advisable. Waste liquid must never be poured onto asphalt, wood or other organic surfaces, and should be allowed to evaporate outdoors in a safe location. A written risk assessment template is available on request, covering ignition sources, ventilation, protective clothing and emergency contacts for the experiment room.
