Use only regulators rated for the cylinder pressure and designed for flammable gas, check connections with leak-detection fluid rather than a flame, and close the cylinder valve at the end of every shift. Never refill a cylinder yourself; filling is done only at authorised plants, where the test date, valve and contents compatibility are verified first.
Common cylinder volumes are 10, 20, 40 and 50 litres, with working pressures that depend on the gas. Propane and butane are liquefied at modest pressure and need a vapour space, so cylinders are never filled completely. Methane and ethylene are held as compressed gas at higher pressure, up to about 200 bar for methane in suitable cylinders. The pressure rating, test pressure, tare weight and manufacturer mark are stamped on the shoulder, and we are glad to explain each marking to your staff. Cylinder identification follows national colour and labelling conventions, and each cylinder carries a product label showing the gas name, UN number, hazard pictograms and supplier details, which makes inspection by safety officers straightforward.
