Tip size determines heat output and gas consumption. Small tips suit sheet steel and jewellery-scale brazing, medium tips handle general welding of 3 to 6 mm steel, and larger tips deliver the volume needed for heating bars and pipes. A cutting attachment with a lever-operated oxygen jet allows clean cuts in mild steel plate. Keep a tip cleaner set with the torch so that carbon deposits never disturb the flame.
A torch lasts longer when treated gently: never use it as a hammer, avoid dropping the tip onto concrete, and let it cool before storage. If the flame pops or burns unevenly, clean the tip bore with the correct size of cleaner and check the seat for damage before relighting.
