Trace Gas Mixture for precision instruments β ppb and low-ppm standards for sensitive detection
A trace gas mixture for precision instruments from REAL GAZ offers analyte levels from a few parts per billion up to low parts per million. These standards calibrate analysers designed to detect very small amounts, such as cavity ring-down spectrometers, laser-based instruments and chemiluminescence detectors.
At such levels, the cylinder itself becomes a critical part of the standard.
At such levels, the cylinder itself becomes a critical part of the standard.
Trace components can be lost by adsorption on cylinder walls or can react with moisture, so the interior surface and the valve are chosen with care. Aluminium cylinders with special treatment or passivated steel are used, and cylinders are conditioned before filling. Mixtures are usually made by dynamic or multi-step dilution from a parent mixture, with each step documented, and we advise a realistic expiry for each component. Using a trace standard correctly is as important as making it. Flush the regulator and lines thoroughly before connecting to the instrument, use inert tubing such as stainless steel or PTFE-lined lines, and keep connections short. Avoid using the cylinder until its pressure falls below the minimum stated on the certificate, because concentration can drift as the last gas is withdrawn. We include these notes with delivery, together with advice on conditioning times after a regulator change.
REAL GAZ supplies this product according to ISO 6142, ISO 6143, ISO 16664 for the handling of calibration gases and ISO 17025 practice, suitable for research and monitoring instruments.
π Where Trace Gas Mixtures Are Used
- π Greenhouse gas monitoring β CHβ, NβO and COβ trace standards for atmospheric observation stations;
- π Semiconductor cleanrooms β low-level contaminants and acid gas standards for process environment checks;
- π§ͺ Breath and vapour research β reference gases for laboratories studying volatile organic compounds;
- π°οΈ Air quality networks β NO, NOβ, SOβ and Oβ precursors for regulatory ambient monitors.
π‘ Why Choose REAL GAZ
- β Conditioned cylinders β surface preparation limits loss of reactive trace components;
- π§ͺ Stepwise dilution records β every dilution stage is documented for traceability;
- π― Realistic shelf life β expiry is based on component behaviour, not on guesswork;
- π Instrument advice β help in selecting regulators and tubing that avoid contamination;
- π Certificate of Analysis (CoA) β stating each trace level, its uncertainty and the recommended expiry.
π¬ Quality Control & Safety
- cylinder conditioning and passivation;
- staged gravimetric and dynamic dilution;
- verification on sensitive reference analysers;
- leak testing and valve integrity checks.
Cylinders comply with ADR / UN transport rules and relevant EN/ISO standards.
