Technical Nitrous Oxide for laboratories — practical N₂O grades for analytical benches
Technical nitrous oxide for laboratories is the working oxidant behind many routine analytical methods, and REAL GAZ offers it in compact cylinders that fit under a bench or inside a gas cabinet.
The 99.9 % grade is dry and low in reactive impurities, which keeps burner heads, nebulisers and sample lines clean over long analytical runs.
Method guidance references ASTM E1184 style atomic absorption practice, with analysis performed under ISO 17025 procedures for laboratory and industrial customers.
Most flame atomic absorption methods that require nitrous oxide are for elements that form stable oxides, including aluminium, silicon, titanium, vanadium, zirconium and the rare earths. The hotter flame breaks down those oxides so the free atoms can absorb light, and an ionisation suppressant such as potassium is commonly added to the sample to improve sensitivity.

🏭 Where Nitrous Oxide Are Used
  • ⚙️ Flame AAS — a nitrous oxide–acetylene flame reaches about 2,700 °C, reducing interference when determining Al, Ba, Mo and Si;
  • 🔬 Geochemical labs — rock, soil and ore digests are measured for refractory elements that an air–acetylene flame cannot atomise;
  • 🏥 Teaching laboratories — universities train students on flame instruments with a stable supply and a clear safety routine;
  • 🚀 Materials research — small N₂O flows support oxidation experiments and plasma tests in university workshops.

💡 Why Choose REAL GAZ
  • ✅ Bench-friendly sizes — small cylinders reduce lifting risk and can be stored in approved laboratory cabinets;
  • 🧪 Low residue — dry gas limits soot and salt build-up on burner slots;
  • 🎯 Stable flame — consistent delivery pressure helps keep absorbance readings steady across a sequence;
  • 🔒 Safety briefing — we supply a checklist for flashback protection and burner shut-down order;
  • 📄 Certificate of Analysis (CoA) — supplied with every order.

🔬 Quality Control & Safety
  • moisture control below the technical grade limit;
  • gravimetric filling and weight verification;
  • chromatographic impurity checks;
  • hydrostatic test dates and valve condition checked at each return.
Cylinders comply with ADR / UN transport rules and relevant EN/ISO standards.

🧰 Laboratory Practice Notes
  • use a regulator rated for nitrous oxide and keep it free of oil and grease;
  • light the instrument on air–acetylene and switch to N₂O only when the flame is stable;
  • never let the cylinder fall below the minimum residual pressure;
  • shut off acetylene first, then N₂O, at the end of a run.
Remember that the N₂O–acetylene flame uses a special burner head with a narrow slot, and that carbon build-up must be removed regularly. Cylinders should never be stored near the burner, and the supply pressure should follow the instrument manual. Our team can supply a one-page start-up and shut-down card to post beside your spectrometer.
