When transferring gas, connect through a regulator or cart suited to the cylinder pressure, evacuate the receiving volume first, and check the final fill pressure against the nameplate value at the actual temperature. Record the cylinder number and the mass transferred. Return part-used cylinders with the valve closed and the cap fitted. Never vent SF₆ deliberately: it persists in the atmosphere for thousands of years, so any surplus should be recovered and returned to us.
