The word technical refers to the specification, not to the quality of service. Technical-grade helium still passes through purification and drying, and every dewar is checked for vacuum integrity. The difference from ultra-high-purity product is a wider impurity allowance, which is acceptable where the cryostat is robust and the process is tolerant. This keeps the cost lower while preserving safe, reliable operation.
