Oxygen, nitrogen and argon are all colourless and odourless, which is exactly why strict identification matters. Each cylinder shoulder carries the gas name, the UN number and the hazard diamond, and the outlet thread differs for oxidising and inert gases. Oxygen supports combustion, so it travels with grease-free valve protection, while nitrogen and argon travel with plain protection caps. Typical filling pressure is 150 to 200 bar, giving roughly 6 to 10 cubic metres in a 50 litre cylinder depending on gas.
