Propane is stored as a liquid under its own vapour pressure, roughly 8 bar at 20 °C, so the cylinder pressure does not fall as the contents are used until the liquid is nearly exhausted. Users should therefore judge remaining contents by weight rather than by a pressure gauge, and should draw vapour from the cylinder in the upright position unless a liquid-offtake valve is fitted.
