Shielding gas classes follow EN ISO 14175 designations such as M12, M21 and I1, while blending is controlled to ISO 6142 principles for weld quality and production repeatability.
Welding quality depends on the gas reaching the pool at the right composition and flow, and cylinder preparation is the first step. Before blending, cylinders are evacuated, then filled component by component on a balance, with weights logged for each addition. After filling they are rolled to homogenise the mixture, then sampled on a gas analyser. Cylinders of 10, 20 and 50 litres are normal, and bundles can feed ring mains in larger workshops.
