Single-component calibration gas from REAL GAZ contains one analyte in a balance gas, for example carbon monoxide in nitrogen or methane in air. It is the most direct way to calibrate a single-gas detector or to check one channel of a multi-gas instrument.

Concentrations range from a few parts per million to tens of percent by volume. Common standards include 50 ppm CO, 25 ppm H₂S, 2.5% methane (about half the lower explosive limit) and 15% oxygen in nitrogen. Toxic gases at low ppm are filled into treated cylinders to avoid loss to the walls. Disposable portable cylinders and refillable steel versions are both offered, with fittings for popular detector brands. Selecting the right balance gas is important. Catalytic bead sensors for methane need oxygen, so methane in air is used, whereas infrared sensors can be calibrated with methane in nitrogen. Electrochemical toxic sensors usually prefer an air balance, but oxygen-free nitrogen is fine for short checks. We follow the detector manufacturer's recommendation and mark the balance gas clearly on the cylinder, which avoids misreadings caused by an unsuitable background.
