SF₆ Gas Cylinder — liquefied SF₆ in tested steel vessels
An SF₆ Gas Cylinder from REAL GAZ holds sulfur hexafluoride as a liquid under its vapour pressure, about 21 bar at 20 °C, which allows a large mass of gas to be stored in a modest volume. Cylinders are offered in common sizes such as 10, 40 and 50 litres.
Because the gas is heavy and non-flammable, correct valve selection and secure storage are the main considerations for safe use.

Cylinders are manufactured and tested to ISO 9809 and EN 1964, and the gas meets IEC 60376, for industrial and laboratory use.
🏭 Where an SF₆ Cylinder Is Used
- ⚡ Substation maintenance — vehicle-mounted cylinders support refilling of switchgear on site;
- 🏭 Production lines — manufacturers charge breakers and gas-insulated equipment from cylinder manifolds;
- 🔬 Test laboratories — single cylinders feed dielectric test vessels and detector calibration;
- 🚚 Contractor stock — service firms keep full cylinders ready for emergency call-outs.
💡 Why Choose a REAL GAZ SF₆ Cylinder
- ✅ Known fill weight — every cylinder carries a recorded net weight of gas;
- 🧪 Dry interior — moisture is removed before the first fill;
- 🎯 Suitable valves — brass or stainless valves matched to SF₆ service and to local regulator threads;
- 🔒 Protective caps — valve guards and caps are fitted for handling and transit;
- 📄 Certificate of Analysis (CoA) — supplied with every order
🔬 Quality Control & Safety
- hydrostatic test and visual inspection records;;
- evacuation to deep vacuum;;
- net-weight verification after filling;;
- valve and plug leak detection.
Never heat a cylinder above 50 °C; because SF₆ is liquefied, a rise in temperature raises the pressure quickly.
Cylinders comply with ADR / UN transport rules, TPED and relevant EN/ISO standards.
📦 Storage & Use
A cylinder of liquefied SF₆ is stable when stored correctly. Place it upright in a dry, shaded store, away from heat, with the valve closed and the cap fitted. Because SF₆ is about five times heavier than air, avoid pits or cellars where leaks could accumulate, and ventilate at floor level. Check the label before use so that the gas, lot and fill date match your order.
- secure with chains or straps;
- inspect valve threads for damage before connecting;
- use a pressure reducer approved for SF₆;
- close the valve fully after each use.
Empty cylinders should be treated carefully too. Close the valve, keep a slight positive pressure inside, replace the cap and mark the cylinder as empty before collection. This prevents moisture entering, shortens refilling preparation and keeps the next fill as clean as the first.
