Weigh cylinders before and after transfers to account for every kilogram of gas, since the liquid phase makes a pressure gauge an unreliable measure of contents. Use the valve protection cap during transport, secure cylinders on a vehicle against rolling, and never use a cylinder that has passed its test date. Open valves slowly, check joints with an approved SF₆ leak detector, and close the valve fully after use. Cylinders should be stored in a dry, ventilated place.
