Compared with acetylene, propane needs a higher ratio of oxygen to fuel, commonly around four to one by volume, so oxygen consumption is greater and regulators and hoses should be sized accordingly. Preheat takes slightly longer, which suits thick sections but rewards patient technique on thinner plate.
