Precision Argon Nitrogen Mixture β accurately blended Ar/Nβ for demanding processes
A precision argon nitrogen mixture from REAL GAZ combines inert argon with a controlled fraction of nitrogen, prepared in cylinders to a stated composition and tolerance. Typical blends range from 0.5% to 20% Nβ in argon, with high-purity argon (5.0) and nitrogen (5.0) used as base components.
Every cylinder is filled by gravimetric blending and verified by analysis, so the nitrogen fraction on the label is the fraction you use at the point of consumption.

REAL GAZ prepares each argon-nitrogen mixture in line with ISO 6142-1 for gravimetric preparation and verifies composition under ISO 6143, within an ISO 17025 quality framework, for process and analytical users.
Blends are available in 10, 20 and 50-litre cylinders filled to 150 or 200 bar, and nitrogen contents can be selected from a few percent up to the upper limits the process allows. In duplex and super-duplex welding, for example, a nitrogen addition of roughly 1β3% in the shielding or backing gas helps replace nitrogen lost from the weld pool, while higher fractions are chosen for plasma nitriding and lamp filling. Because argon is denser than nitrogen, we roll each cylinder after filling so that the contents are fully homogeneous before sampling.
π Where Argon-Nitrogen Mixtures Are Used
- βοΈ Duplex stainless steel welding β a small nitrogen addition to the argon shielding or purge gas helps preserve the austeniteβferrite balance in the weld metal;
- π¬ Instrument calibration β accurately known Ar/Nβ standards are used to check thermal conductivity detectors and gas analysers in laboratories;
- π‘ Lamp and sensor filling β nitrogen-argon fills suppress arcing and extend the life of certain lamps, switches and sealed electronic components;
- π Surface engineering β sputtering and plasma nitriding lines use the mixture to form nitride layers on tools and components.
π‘ Why Choose REAL GAZ
- β Tight composition tolerance β gravimetric preparation keeps the nitrogen content close to the certified value from the first cylinder to the last;
- π§ͺ Dry, clean base gases β argon and nitrogen are taken from purified sources, keeping moisture and oxygen low enough for sensitive coatings;
- π― Stable in storage β aluminium and steel cylinders with treated interiors keep the blend homogeneous over its stated shelf life;
- π Blends matched to your recipe β fractions can be agreed for your welding procedure or process specification rather than forced into a catalogue grade;
- π Certificate of Analysis (CoA) β supplied with every order.
π¬ Quality Control & Safety
- argon and nitrogen purification before every fill;
- gravimetric weighing on calibrated balances;
- gas chromatography and oxygen/moisture checks;
- valve and cylinder leak testing at working pressure.
Cylinders comply with ADR / UN transport rules and relevant EN/ISO standards.
Store cylinders upright and chained, in a dry ventilated area away from heat sources. Both components are non-toxic and non-flammable, but they displace oxygen, so use oxygen monitoring in enclosed rooms. Fit a regulator rated for the cylinder pressure and purge the line briefly before first use.
