🔧 Handling & Technical Notes
Oxygen must never meet oil, grease or dirty rags, since this can ignite spontaneously under pressure. Open cylinder valves slowly, and never stand in front of a regulator when opening. Use a non-return valve and a flashback arrestor on each line, and replace them on the manufacturer's schedule or after any flashback event.
Two flame types matter in practice. A neutral flame has equal oxygen and fuel and is used for cutting, while a carburising flame has excess fuel and is not suitable. Operators should adjust the preheat valves until the inner cones are sharp and clear, then test the cutting lever briefly. A steady, narrow, bright jet shows the nozzle and valves are working as intended.
