In oxy-fuel work the ratio between oxygen and fuel defines the flame: neutral for welding steel, carburising for hard-facing, oxidising for brass. The X11 set allows each gas to be adjusted independently, with clear gauges showing cylinder content and working pressure. Operators learn to read the inner cone and feather of the flame, which gives direct feedback without electrical equipment.
Always light the torch in the correct order: fuel gas first, then oxygen, and shut down in reverse. Purge each hose briefly before lighting, work in ventilated areas, and keep a suitable extinguisher within reach. Operators should wear eye protection with the right shade number, gloves and flame-resistant clothing.
Choice of fuel gas changes the character of the work. Acetylene gives the highest flame temperature, propane and propylene are cheaper for cutting and heating, and each needs its own regulator and tip design.
