A nitrous oxide gas cylinder must withstand the vapour pressure of the liquid inside, which is about 50 bar at 15 °C and rises quickly as the temperature climbs. REAL GAZ uses seamless steel cylinders designed for this duty and inspects each one before it is filled.

Cylinders are manufactured to ISO 9809, approved under the TPED pi-mark system and re-tested at the intervals required by EN 1968, for industrial and laboratory service.
Colour coding and labels help prevent errors. In European practice nitrous oxide cylinders have a blue body, though customers should always confirm the gas by the label and not by colour alone. The label shows the UN number, the oxidiser hazard diamond, the net content, the batch number and the supplier details, and it stays legible through normal storage conditions.

Never transport a cylinder with the valve unprotected and never roll it along the floor. Use a trolley with a restraining chain, keep the cap on during movement and open the valve slowly with the outlet pointed away from people. If a cylinder valve leaks, close it, move the cylinder to an open area if it is safe to do so and call our emergency line.
