Products are classified under EN ISO 14175 (N1 and nitrogen-bearing mixtures), cylinders under EN 1964, suitable for fabrication and maintenance use.
Back purging stainless steel pipe with nitrogen at low flow keeps the inside surface free of heat tint and preserves corrosion resistance, which is vital in food, pharma and chemical lines. Small additions of nitrogen to argon, typically 1 to 3 per cent, are used on duplex and super duplex grades to maintain austenite balance in the weld metal. For purging, calculate the internal volume of the pipe and flow at least five volumes before striking an arc, then reduce flow to avoid pressure build-up. Always vent to a safe place, because nitrogen displaces oxygen. Use a flowmeter regulator rather than a plain pressure gauge to keep the flow consistent. Gas lenses and wider ceramic cups improve coverage when shielding gas mixtures are used on large pipe joints, and our staff can recommend suitable consumables.
