Different valve types give different behaviour. Ball valves are quick and give a positive shut-off, which is useful for isolation but poor for fine adjustment. Needle valves allow very fine control at low flows, though they offer a high pressure drop when nearly closed. Diaphragm valves keep the gas path clean and are favoured in high-purity and pharmaceutical systems because there is no packing to leak or shed particles. A common arrangement is a regulator followed by a needle valve and a check valve, which sets pressure, trims the flow and prevents back-flow into the cylinder. We can assemble and test these combinations to order, and we mark each assembly with its set pressure range. Panel builders can specify tube-fitting or threaded ports, and we will confirm the pressure rating of every component in the assembly so that the weakest part does not limit the system.
Think about the order of the valves in the line. A shut-off valve upstream of the regulator allows service to the regulator, while one on the outlet allows pressure to be set with no flow. Many installers fit both.
