Designs follow EN ISO 7291 for manifold regulators, ISO 10524 for pressure regulators in medical use and ISO 15001 for oxygen compatibility, supported by ISO 11114 material compatibility data.
Manifolds are built in a range of formats. A simple wall-mounted unit for two cylinders suits a small laboratory, while a floor-standing automatic unit with ten cylinders per bank can supply a hospital ward block or a production hall. Single-stage regulation is acceptable for modest flows, but two-stage designs give a steadier outlet pressure as the cylinder empties. Specialty-gas manifolds add purge lines, so the system can be flushed with inert gas after each cylinder change and air or moisture does not contaminate the process. Corrosive gases require special seals, such as PTFE or metal diaphragms, and often a dedicated cabinet with extraction. Every manifold is labelled for its gas service and cannot be connected to the wrong cylinder, since outlets are matched to the correct national thread.
