Use stainless or oxygen-approved tubing and keep lines short. Purge the line with an inert gas before changing between oxygen and a flammable gas. Record cylinder number, regulator setting and flowmeter reading in the laboratory log. Never mix up tubing for different gases, label every line, and ensure the room has enough ventilation and an oxygen monitor if large volumes are in use.
Good bench practice protects both results and people. Place cylinders in a ventilated cabinet or secured outside the room, and bring only the needed tubing to the bench. Where oxygen is blended with nitrogen or argon, verify the composition with an analyser and do not rely on the flowmeter alone. Purities from 99.5 per cent upwards are common in research, and we can supply suitable cylinder sizes from small bench bottles to larger packs.
