Laboratories often need a fairly modest amount of gas for a long time. A single cylinder serving a CO₂ incubator might last for months, so valve and regulator tightness matter. We recommend a two-stage regulator with an alarm for the low-pressure side, automatic change-over to a second cylinder, and a CO₂ monitor in the incubator room to protect staff.
Day-to-day handling in a laboratory is simple if the basics are respected. Use a regulator rated for CO₂, keep in mind that the expansion of liquid CO₂ cools the regulator and can freeze moisture, and install a heater or choose a gaseous cylinder where steady flow is needed. Check the connection for leaks with a suitable leak detection fluid, not with a flame.
