A 10 litre acetylene cylinder is usually enough for several weeks of routine AAS work, and its low weight makes handling in a laboratory realistic for one person with a trolley. Because acetone from the cylinder can vaporise at low pressure, we recommend an acetone-trap or at least stopping use below 5 bar. Gas cabinets with fire-resistant panels and local exhaust give the best protection indoors.

📦 Storing Acetylene in a Laboratory
Keep the cylinder in a ventilated cabinet outside the main working room if possible, restrained and upright. Mark the area with fire and gas signs, fit an acetylene detector if the cylinder stays indoors, and train staff in the emergency shut-off procedure. Do not store spare cylinders near oxidising gases. We can supply an acetylene regulator with a 0 to 1.5 bar outlet scale, which suits the narrow working range of flame spectrometers and gives finer control than general-purpose gauges.
