Working pressures of R-410A are about 60 % higher than R-22, so only gauges, hoses, recovery machines and cylinders rated for this duty may be used. The refrigerant is non-flammable with an A1 safety class, but it displaces oxygen in confined plant rooms, so ventilation and refrigerant detectors per EN 378 remain essential. Technicians should hold the F-gas certification required in their market, and recovered gas must be returned for reclamation instead of being vented.
Planning an installation starts with the line-set: R-410A needs clean, dehydrated copper, nitrogen-purged brazing, and a triple evacuation to a deep vacuum measured with a micron gauge. Charge by weight on the scales, referring to the nameplate and adding the additional amount per metre of pipe. Commissioning records should note suction and discharge pressures, superheat and sub-cooling.
