📘 Technical and Handling Notes
Because R-407C has a temperature glide of around 7 K, it must always be charged in the liquid phase so the composition in the system is not changed. Technicians should use POE lubricant, check the evaporator superheat after charging and record the charge weight for F-gas logbooks. Cylinders are normally supplied in 11.3 kg, 13.6 kg and larger refillable sizes, and should be kept upright and out of direct sun.
Retrofit planning deserves care. Before converting an R-22 plant, drain the mineral oil and replace it with POE, change the filter drier, and check that the expansion valve is rated for the new blend. Seals and gaskets should be inspected for compatibility, and the system should be evacuated below 500 microns and held to prove tightness. After charging, record suction and discharge pressures, superheat and subcooling at several loads. Facilities with large charges should register the refrigerant quantity, schedule leak checks according to local regulation, and use fixed detectors where the plant room is below ground. Where a site holds several chillers, we suggest a single logbook per machine so charge history and leak repairs stay visible to auditors and to the next engineer.
