Nitrous oxide behaves differently from permanent gases. Inside a cylinder it exists as liquid with a gas cushion above, and the pressure stays near 50 bar while liquid remains, then drops quickly at the end. Drawing gas at high rates cools the cylinder through evaporation, which can freeze regulators and reduce flow, so continuous users either fit heated regulators or use several cylinders in parallel. At about 300 °C the gas decomposes and releases oxygen, which explains why it supports combustion more strongly than air.
