Design and testing follow ISO 9809-1, EN ISO 11114-1 and the TPED directive, with colour markings per EN 1089-3 (red shoulder for flammable gases).
Hydrogen outlets use left-hand threads, so the connector cannot be fitted to an oxygen or inert gas regulator by mistake. Valves are brass or stainless steel, and the cylinder neck carries the gas name, UN number, test pressure, water capacity and tare weight. Never use oil or grease on any fitting.
Handling rules for a hydrogen cylinder are simple but strict. Move it with a trolley and the cap fitted, never roll or drag it, and keep it away from heat above 50 °C. Open the valve slowly to avoid heating the regulator by sudden compression, and close it fully after use. Check the connection with leak detection fluid each time, because even small leaks of hydrogen are invisible and the flame is almost colourless in daylight.
