Gas chromatographs, ICP and mass spectrometers each place their own demands on supply. Moisture, oxygen and total hydrocarbons are the usual troublemakers, so we report them for each lot. We recommend stainless steel regulators with metal diaphragms and clean tubing, because even excellent gas can be contaminated by a poor delivery line. Standards are available at ppm and ppb levels in nitrogen, helium or argon. Delivery hardware deserves attention. Use stainless steel or properly cleaned copper tubing, purge the regulator several times before opening the cylinder to the instrument, and fit gas purifiers or moisture traps where the method calls for them. Avoid plastic tubing for oxygen-sensitive work, since it allows air to diffuse in. For long unattended runs, an automatic changeover manifold prevents a baseline disturbance when one cylinder empties, and we can specify one for your bench.
