Ultra-pure argon is only as clean as the hardware it passes through. Elastomer diaphragms allow slow diffusion of oxygen and water vapour, which is why high purity service calls for stainless or nickel-alloy diaphragms and a metal-to-metal body seal. Typical maximum inlet pressure is 200 or 300 bar, with outlet ranges of 0-4 bar for instruments and 0-10 bar for furnaces. Before fitting a new unit, purge the connection by cycling the cylinder valve and venting the line several times, which removes trapped air from the inlet. Store spare regulators capped and bagged, away from oil, dust and sunlight.
