High Pressure R-134A โ understanding and managing liquefied refrigerant at pressure
High Pressure R-134A supplied by REAL GAZ is stored as a liquid in thick-walled cylinders designed for working pressures well above the normal vapour pressure of the gas.
Pressure rating, hydrostatic test date and relief arrangements are documented on every cylinder.
Pressure rating, hydrostatic test date and relief arrangements are documented on every cylinder.
Cylinder design follows ISO 9809, with hydrostatic testing per ISO 10462 and pressure relief guidance from EN ISO 4126, for industrial and test-rig use.
๐ญ Where High-Pressure R-134a Is Used
- โ๏ธ Test rigs โ engineers run high-side pressure tests on compressors and condensers;
- ๐ฌ Hot-climate air-conditioning โ condensing pressures climb in high ambient temperatures, so plant must be correctly rated;
- ๐ฅ Heat-pump development โ prototype cycles are pushed to high condensing temperatures;
- ๐ Pressure-relief validation โ safety valve manufacturers verify opening behaviour with a known fluid.
๐ก Why Choose REAL GAZ
- โ Tested pressure class โ test pressure is marked on the cylinder;
- ๐งช Safe fill limits โ filling ratios prevent liquid overfill;
- ๐ฏ Rated fittings โ valves and connectors suit the working pressure;
- ๐ Clear guidance โ temperature and pressure tables are available on request;
- ๐ Certificate of Analysis (CoA) โ supplied with every order.
๐ฆ Pressure Characteristics of R-134a
The critical point of R-134a is about 101 ยฐC and 40.6 bar, so systems operating near that region require carefully rated components. Do not heat a cylinder to raise pressure; use a controlled warm-water bath no hotter than 40 ยฐC if flow slows. Fit pressure gauges and relief devices to any closed volume that could be isolated with liquid inside.
Pressure ratings can be confusing, because several different numbers appear on or around a cylinder. The working pressure is the maximum pressure at a reference temperature, the test pressure is the value applied during hydrostatic testing, and the burst pressure is far higher and is not used in service. The vapour pressure of the contents depends on temperature alone while liquid is present. REAL GAZ explains these terms in plain language and provides a temperature and pressure table on request. We also warn customers never to fill an intermediate vessel without proper rated equipment, since trapped liquid expanding with heat can create dangerous forces.
๐ฌ Quality Control & Safety
- multi-stage purification and filtration;
- precision gravimetric filling and net-weight verification;
- moisture & impurity analysis on every lot;
- leak testing and pressure integrity checks.
Cylinders comply with ADR / UN transport rules and relevant EN/ISO standards.
