Equipment follows ISO 7291 and EN ISO 2503 for pressure regulators, ISO 10524 where relevant and ISO 9809-3 for high-pressure cylinder design, with ADR transport.
The main hazard of oxygen at high pressure is ignition of materials that would normally be safe. Rapid opening of a valve compresses the gas in the downstream line and can heat soft seals or traces of contaminant until they burn, so oxygen pipework should be clean, made from compatible metals such as brass, copper alloys or stainless steel, and fitted with seals approved for oxygen. Particle filters upstream of regulators reduce the risk from rust or machining swarf.

Pressure also changes the amount of gas available. At 300 bar a 50 litre vessel holds about 15 cubic metres, a significant increase over 200 bar, but regulators, hoses and gauges must be rated for the higher inlet value.
