Working at high pressure demands equipment rated for it: regulators, hoses and valves must carry a rating above the cylinder pressure, and joints should use helium-compatible seals. A 50-litre cylinder at 300 bar holds around 14 cubic metres of gas. Operators should open valves slowly to avoid heating from rapid compression and always wear eye protection when connecting or disconnecting.
Pressure safety rules should be written into your procedure. Equipment must be rated above the highest cylinder pressure, pipework should be tested and labelled, and blow-off outlets should discharge outdoors or to a safe area.
