Precision depends on stable conditions. Keep inlet pressure constant using a two-stage regulator, allow time for the temperature of the gas to equalise with the room, and avoid sudden valve movements. Record the pressure and temperature when you set the flow, since both affect the reading. If your work demands traceability, plan a periodic comparison against a reference meter, and replace any tube that is scratched or fogged inside.
Purity matters as much as resolution. When oxygen is supplied at 99.5 per cent or 99.995 per cent purity, an unclean flowmeter can undermine that quality, so keep the instrument sealed until use and install it on a clean line with stainless steel or approved copper tubing. For accuracy, avoid mounting it close to heat sources or draughts, and give every new setting a short stabilisation time before recording results in your laboratory notebook.
