Flashback Preventer โ2 โ Flashback Preventers for safe gas work
The Flashback Preventer โ2 from REAL GAZ is a second-series safety device fitted between the hose and the torch or regulator, built to stop a flame front travelling back into the gas supply.
It combines a sintered flame arrestor element with a non-return valve, so reverse flow and flame propagation are both interrupted, and every unit is leak tested before it leaves our warehouse.

REAL GAZ supplies this device against ISO 5175-1 and ISO 9539 material requirements, for workshop and site fabrication use, with datasheets that list working pressure, flow capacity and thread type.
๐ญ Where Flashback Preventers Are Used
- โ๏ธ Manual cutting โ protects the oxygen and fuel lines of a hand-held cutting torch during heavy plate work, where hot slag and sudden back pressure are common;
- ๐ฌ Brazing benches โ guards low-flow brazing torches where flame pop-back is common, particularly on copper and refrigeration pipework;
- ๐ฅ Maintenance shops โ adds a layer of protection to portable welding trolleys that are moved between bays and often knocked or dropped;
- ๐ Shipyard repair โ suits temporary hose runs on decks and in confined compartments, where a flashback would be especially dangerous.
๐ก Why Choose REAL GAZ
- โ Dual protection โ the arrestor element and check valve work together in one compact body, saving space on crowded torch handles;
- ๐งช Corrosion-resistant body โ brass and stainless internals suit oxygen and fuel gas service for many years of daily use;
- ๐ฏ Clear gas marking โ separate fuel and oxygen fittings reduce the risk of crossed connections when kits are reassembled;
- ๐ Thermal cut-off option โ units are available with a temperature-sensitive shut-off on request for demanding duties;
- ๐ Certificate of Analysis (CoA) โ supplied with every order.
๐ ๏ธ Fitting & Care Notes
Fit one preventer at each torch inlet and a second at the regulator outlet for the highest level of protection. Inspect the unit before each shift, replace it after any flashback event and never oil or grease oxygen-side threads. Reverse-flow testing should be repeated at the intervals set out in your site safety procedure, and spare units should be kept sealed in a dry cabinet so that a damaged device can be swapped out immediately without stopping the job.
Pressure ratings are normally 1.5 bar for acetylene and up to 10 bar for oxygen and propane, so always read the stamped values before fitting. Typical thread forms include G 3/8 and G 1/4 left-hand for fuel gas and right-hand for oxygen. Sets built for hot, dusty environments benefit from a thermal cut-off, which closes the line permanently if the body overheats. Our staff will ask for the torch model, hose bore and working pressure so the quotation matches your equipment exactly.
๐ฌ Quality Control & Safety
- machined components inspected before assembly;
- sintered element and valve function checks;
- leak testing and pressure integrity checks;
- clear marking of gas, direction and maximum pressure.
Cylinders and accessories comply with ADR / UN transport rules and relevant EN/ISO standards.
