Liquid oxygen at −183 °C can freeze skin on contact, embrittle ordinary steel and condense into pools that soak into clothing, which then burns vigorously near sparks. Only use cryogenic-rated hoses, valves and stainless or copper components. Do not seal a section of line containing liquid between two closed valves, because trapped liquid vaporises and can burst the pipe. Allow cold equipment to warm slowly and never transfer liquid into a vessel that is not cleaned and marked for oxygen duty.
