Cylinders are made to ISO 9809, marked to EN ISO 13769, painted dark green per EN 1089-3 and carried under ADR as UN 1006.
Contents are about 2 m³, 4 m³ and 10 m³ respectively at 200 bar. Valve outlets suit standard welding regulators. Argon is not flammable or toxic, but it displaces oxygen, so store cylinders upright, chained, in ventilated spaces, and never carry them in closed vehicle cabins.
Practical guidance helps cylinders last. Keep the valve closed when not welding, fit the protective cap during transport, and store full and empty cylinders separately and clearly marked. Check regulators and hoses for wear every few months, and replace any hose with cracks or damaged ends. If you notice a drop in pressure with the valve closed, close the downstream valve, test with leak detection fluid and call our team rather than tightening fittings under pressure. Bulk users in larger workshops can move to cylinder packs with a header and a single regulator, which cuts the number of cylinder changes and the time lost to them in every shift. Argon cylinders are also used for purging pipework and tanks before welding, where the inert gas pushes out air and prevents oxide forming on the inside of a joint. Ask for a purge kit and a low-flow meter for that job.
