Jet-type control elements differ from conventional poppet designs because the gas passes through a small, precisely shaped orifice whose opening is changed by the spindle. The benefit is progressive behaviour: the first quarter-turn does not slam the pressure up, which protects fragile glassware, thin tubing and sensitive detector inlets. Because helium is lighter than nitrogen and argon, the same spindle position may deliver slightly different flows, so users should set the pressure by the gauge for each gas. Typical outlet ranges are 0-2, 0-6 and 0-10 bar, with inlet ratings up to 200 bar. Always open the cylinder valve slowly, stand to the side of the gauge, and check connections with leak-detection liquid that is approved for the gas. Spare seats and gauges are available if you wish to service units in house.
