Argon and CO₂ blends behave differently from pure argon because the CO₂ fraction is sensitive to cooling when gas expands. A well-built body with a generous diaphragm area keeps the outlet pressure steady, which in turn keeps the arc stable and the shielding envelope consistent from the first weld to the last.
REAL GAZ supplies regulators designed with reference to EN ISO 2503, with mixtures conforming to EN ISO 14175 (M20/M21 groups), suitable for workshop and site use.
Practical handling matters as much as specification. Fit the regulator only to a clean valve outlet, never use PTFE tape or oil on threads, and open the cylinder valve slowly so the diaphragm is not shocked. Argon–CO₂ cylinders are commonly supplied in 10, 20, 40 and 50 litre sizes, filled to 200 bar, which gives a useful working supply for a typical shift. Store cylinders upright, chained and away from heat. When a regulator shows creep, where outlet pressure rises with the valve closed, withdraw it from service and have the seat inspected rather than adjusting around the fault.
