Medical use of a flow regulator is governed by separate device regulations and must be done only with products approved for that purpose. For technical use, read flow with the regulator upright, and do not use it with damaged tubing.
Flow is normally read in litres per minute, and typical technical units cover ranges from a few litres to several tens of litres per minute. The scale is calibrated for a specific outlet pressure and gas, so it should be used only with oxygen and only within the stated range. Back pressure in a long or restricted line can change the real flow, which is why flow tube models should be used upright and as close to the point of use as practical. Replace tubing at the first sign of ageing, and keep the knob closed when the cylinder is changed. For critical applications, verify the displayed flow against a reference flow meter at installation and at regular intervals, and record the result. Keep the regulator dry and protected from knocks when not in use.
