Because the setting is variable, correct training is essential. Operators should know how the preventer works, what a trip looks like and how to reset it safely after the cause has been found. As a general rule, the setting should be high enough to allow normal flow but low enough to react to abnormal conditions. Never raise a setting to stop nuisance tripping before the cause is understood, since repeated trips may point to a blocked tip or damaged hose.
