Flow regulators measure and control in the same device. The pressure stage sets a stable inlet to a metering needle, and the flowtube shows how much gas passes. Because flowmeter scales are calibrated for a specific gas, the reading for helium will differ from that for argon or nitrogen at the same float position, and the label or a correction chart should be consulted when changing gases. Typical scales are 0-5, 0-15 and 0-30 L/min with accuracy of around ±5 % of full scale, which is suitable for purging, shielding and general lab work but not for precise dosing. For critical processes we suggest a separate mass flow controller downstream. Always close the needle valve before opening the cylinder, so that gas is released smoothly and the float is not slammed against its stop.
